I chose to analyze this American Red Cross Ad. It appeals to the pathos of the audience because the girl in the ad is in obvious distress. It looks like she truly needs help now, and it really speaks to the person who is observing it. The ad also says that "help can't wait," and that they need you now, which appeals to the readers emotions because it makes them feel as if they need to contribute and that the need is desperate. This ad appeals to the ethos of the reader because the American Red Cross is a very well known organization, and they have been known to do great things in the past, which adds to their credibility. It also assures the reader that their money is all going going to a good cause. The ad appeals to the logos of the reader because it is logical. The girl is in distress, and there are many others like her, so they need your help now.

Although the picture didn't load on my computer, I can imagine what the scene looked like based on several other red cross ads I have seen. I agree that they are definitley trying to appeal most to the reader's emotions. Although the red cross is undoubtedly a great foundation that does the right thing with their money, I don't always like ads liek this that try to play so strongly to emotions. They try to make the reader feel bad for the victims so that they will spend their money. To me, people should donate because they want to, and if they don't then that's fine. I think it is irresponsible to guilt people into donating. This is similar to the commercials you see on tv with all of the very sad looking animals that "need your help." They try to play too strongly to the reader's emotions and don't concentrate enough on the other rhetorical aspects.
I agree that appealing to the emotions is going to be extremely effective. It also helps that the Red Cross label on the picture is going to establish credibility and make the viewer see that their money is going to good use, as Blair said. The line "help can't wait" is also effective in getting people to act right away, as opposed to debating on whether or not this is going to be the best cause to help with. This picture sounds like it would be very effective in recruiting help for the American Red Cross.
I agree with the logic of the ad that you chose of the American Red Cross. I feel that the girl being in distress definitely gets the readers attention. I feel that the American Red Cross usually does ads that makes the readers take action. They want to make the readers help them make a difference. I feel that the ad you chose is an excellent way of how they portray that.
